Generation Connected

Gest Speaker Dietmar Dahmen opened my eyes to society's demand for technology. We live in a world where everything has to be new or even newer than new. As Dahmen mentioned in his speech the trend of "Nowism" and "Firstism" play a huge roll on consuming. Products are sold out before they even exist in stores because of pre-order options. People line up in front of stores just so they can have the first next thing! I find it ridiculous that people actually camp out in tents on the evening before the release of new technology, especially when they can wait a few months for the store to restock for the same exact item.  From my experience, I've had a basic talk and text phone for over four years and in those four years I've seen Smartphones upgrade from the very first IPhone to today's IPhone 5. Excited as I was to receive my first smartphone (IPhone 5), I can't help but think of how new and what "revolutionizing" technology the IPhone 5s will have a few months from now.

The Introduction

Hey! I'm Samantha Manklang and I would love to welcome you to my new blog dedicated to advertising. I'm a Kinesiology Major with an emphasis in Sports Management at San Jose State University and taking Advertising 91 as my additional coursework. I am very excited for this class because it will show me the ins and outs of advertisement and how it'll tie into business. If I want to work in an event center in the future, who knows, I may be the person finding sponsors and finding an audience to sell to. My take on advertising is that it could be the most brilliant thing that has happened to media. How else will new products be able to be heard of or seen? Today many people who can't advertise on the big screens or in commercials use free services like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter,...the list goes on and on! Advertising is spread by word of the mouth and has become more successful and creative to reach out to today's audience. Some advertisements can be annoying but if you think about it. That's business.
